What is a display refrigerator?
A display refrigerator is an industrial refrigerator with a glass door, developed for commercial purposes, where beverages are beautifully showcased, for example, in a shop or restaurant. Many also call it a bottle cooler, as it is used for beverages in most cases.
The most important feature is that the display refrigerator presents beverages beautifully and invitingly. There should be good lighting that reaches all bottles and cans, regardless of whether they are at the bottom, middle, or top.
Optional extras
- Branding (e.g., foil on sides or decoration in light panel)
- Extra shelves (can hold up to 45 kg)
- Indoor delivery/upstairs delivery
- Reversal of glass door before delivery
Is the refrigerator for food or bottles?
All our display refrigerators on this page are made for cooling and displaying either beverages or food. Most models are designed primarily for beverages, where there are no legal temperature requirements (except for dairy products).
However, glass-door refrigerators have improved at cooling and maintaining temperature with high opening frequency, making them better suited for food that must be kept at a maximum of 5°C. Before buying a display refrigerator, you should check that your chosen refrigerator can go down to 0°C or a maximum of 2°C. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to monitor and ensure that the cabinet maintains the temperature.
Food authorities are not always keen on storing food in a glass-door refrigerator. Alternatively, you can choose a storage refrigerator.
Ventilated cooling
All display refrigerators are equipped with ventilated cooling. A small fan inside the cabinet distributes the cold. This ensures a more uniform temperature inside the cabinet.
The fan distributing the cold emits a humming sound. So they are designed differently from the refrigerator you have at home.
Can a display refrigerator be used for wine?
In theory, you can use a display refrigerator or a backbar to chill wine, but it does NOT provide a good environment for the wine, and therefore it should only be used to chill wine for immediate consumption. For long-term storage, you need a wine refrigerator. On this page, we have gathered a sharp selection of wine refrigerators from Tefcold and Vestfrost. They are all suitable for restaurants.
The optimal storage temperature for wine is:
- Red wine: 10-16 °C
- White wine: 7-12 °C
- Sparkling wine: 8-10 °C
How much noise does a display refrigerator make?
Typically, a glass-door refrigerator emits between 39 and 48 decibels on the noise scale, but some models go as high as 65 and are only suitable for places where noise can be tolerated.
Refrigerators can vary significantly, so we always recommend choosing a cabinet at the lower end of the scale. Especially if it will be placed in a common room, office, or similar. For example, a 3-decibel difference will be perceived as a noticeable difference. Refrigerators for private use are around 38 to 40 decibels.
If a display refrigerator is opened and closed frequently during the day, it may make some noise to get back down to temperature again, and the same applies when it raises the temperature for defrosting. It does this as needed. If you fill a new refrigerator with goods before it has time to cool down, it will also make noise. If it is not level because the floor/table is uneven, it can also produce audible vibrations.
Climate class and ambient temperature
Unless otherwise stated, the display refrigerators are tested for Danish conditions with an ambient temperature of
25°C and 60% humidity. If the conditions where the cabinet will be placed are different, you must
choose a cabinet with climate class 4 (30°C), climate class SN (10-32°C), climate class N (16-32°C) or climate class ST (18-38°C). In that case, you should contact us beforehand
to get the right guidance.
Offer
We typically have a few individual cabinets on offer at a very good price. Otherwise, we usually follow the manufacturers' list prices. If you want several refrigerators, we can make you an offer with a quantity discount.
Brands
We have refrigerators from Tefcold, Scancool, Vestfrost, GRAM, Vibocold, and Liebherr. We offer service and repairs for all the brands in our range. You can be sure that the refrigeration technician who visits you will have the most common spare parts in the car, so they only need to visit you once before your refrigerator is working again.
Tefcold
Tefcold is one of our best-selling brands because the combination of price, design, and quality works very well. Tefcold has Denmark's largest warehouse of commercial refrigeration furniture in Viborg, and therefore we can deliver the next workday if ordered before 12 PM.
The CEV425 series from Tefcold consists of a black and a white model, each available with and without a light panel for branding. These display refrigerators are our most popular models by far, because you get a lot of value for money. We have sold them for approx. 10 years, as some of the only ones in Denmark. So we have many satisfied customers who have such a refrigerator. A new model called CEV435 was released in 2024, which is 40% more energy efficient.
The SCU series, also from Tefcold, is slightly more energy-efficient than the CEV series, and in addition, it is available as "frameless", where the glass extends to the edge of the door. There is no visible handle, which is popular among more design-conscious customers.
The Atom Maxi series is a relatively new series of display refrigerators launched by Tefcold at the end of 2023. It is developed for those who have a shop, kiosk, supermarket, bakery, campsite, or other business where there is a need for a heavy-duty display cooler, which can cool both beverages and food under intensive use. These therefore use a bit more power than ordinary bottle coolers, but are otherwise developed to be very energy-efficient in relation to their incredible cooling capabilities. The series consists of models with 1, 2, and 3 doors, and all of them are available in a freezer version, which can stand next to it with frozen bread, ice cream, pizza, or other frozen foods.
Scancool (Scandomestic)
Scancool is a brand under Danish Scandomestic, which has a large warehouse just outside Silkeborg. We sell many of these models, as they are in a price segment where everyone can participate. They have also developed several black models, which are found in many shops around.
Vestfrost
Vestfrost is also a Danish brand, but it is in a slightly higher price segment than the brands mentioned above. The quality is good, and the design is top-notch – especially on the popular MFG 185 model.
Gram
GRAM represents the ultimate quality in professional refrigerators. This applies to both noise levels and energy consumption, as well as the general quality of the components. Therefore, we offer a 3-year warranty on GRAM cabinets in this category.
Vibocold
Vibocold is one of Denmark's leading companies in the sale and repair of industrial refrigerators. They have a very good grasp of their products and therefore typically launch sensible quality products in the low- and mid-price segments.
Complaints and after-sales service
Regardless of which brand you decide to buy, you are covered by our minimum 1-year warranty if anything should happen to the cabinet. This warranty covers both spare parts and technician hours, so you will not have to pay anything for a manufacturing defect. There are a large number of service vehicles that service cabinets throughout the country. They carry spare parts in their car and ensure that you can quickly get back up and running.
