Maintenance and cleaning of display fridges and freezers

Extend the life of your refrigerator and reduce energy consumption with a few simple tips. Systematize the cleaning and maintenance of your refrigerators and freezers so that you remember it every time. Some things you can do once a month, other things weekly.

Clean condenser and evaporator

Clean the condenser coils in the back of your refrigerator at least once a month. Dust and dirt on the coils can reduce efficiency and increase power consumption. You can use a brush or a vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt.

In the condenser, the refrigerant cools down and condenses, which means that it goes from being a gas to being a liquid.

Make sure the evaporator is clean and free of ice. If ice builds up, it can hamper the cooling capacity. The evaporator sits inside the refrigerator and is the part that cools the contents of the refrigerator.

Check the sealing strips

You should check the door sealing strips regularly for cracks or damage. If the cabinet is used a lot, wear and tear can quickly occur, but otherwise they can typically be used for a long time before they need to be replaced.

Seal strips that do not seal tightly can cause the refrigerator to work harder to maintain temperature, which can lead to increased wear and tear. Clean them regularly and replace them if necessary.

Check drain holes and hoses

Make sure the drain holes and hoses are not blocked. Blocked drains can lead to water pooling and ice formation. Clean them periodically with a brush or a thin wire.

Clean inside and outside

Clean the inside of the refrigerator regularly to prevent the accumulation of bacteria and mold. Use a food-safe cleaning agent.
Clean the exterior, including handles and control panels, to prevent dirt and grease from accumulating.

Check temperature settings

Check and adjust the temperature regularly to ensure the refrigerator is operating at the recommended temperatures. Consider using an external thermometer for accurate monitoring.

Ventilation around the refrigerator

Make sure there is adequate ventilation around the refrigerator when installing it. Do not place it too close to walls or other appliances, as this may block airflow and overheat the motor.

Defrosting

If the refrigerator has an automatic defrost, make sure it is working properly. If it does not have this function, you must defrost the refrigerator manually at regular intervals to prevent ice formation.
